Your Community Is Our Community

“We know that families are integral to building community. Saskatoon has given my family a home and a high quality of life. My grandfather established Cherry Insurance in 1945 and we’ve been a part of this community ever since. That’s why we’re working to make a difference and to give something back.”– Scott Cherry, Owner of Cherry Insurance

When Scott Cherry saw the article “Laura Orenchuk; A Survivor’s Story” in the Fall 2017 Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation magazine Well Aware that told the story of a young women diagnosed with breast cancer, he knew this was a project he wanted to be a part of. He enlisted the help of his daughter, Robyn Cherry, and Ryan Yedersberger who leads their wonderful PR team over at Stealth Media, to start a discussion with the Saskatoon City Hospital to see how we could be involved. Through discussions with the staff at the Saskatoon City Hospital a plan was put into place where the goal was to match $100,000 in donations. With a very tight timeline Ryan and his team put together a wonderful campaign video (click here to view the video) to help bring awareness and generate donations. In just 6 short weeks we were pleased to learn that we had surpassed this goal and with this and the other campaigns running through the Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation, they now had enough money to purchase the Automated Breast Ultrasound for the Breast Health Centre. We wish to say a big THANK YOU to all those that donated to this cause, a very special thank you to the team at Stealth Media who donated countless hours of their time to producing and promoting the campaign, thank you to the doctor’s, nurses, admin staff, and all others at the Saskatoon City Hospital and the Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation for all the work they do. Our thanks and prayers go out to all the people who have battled and won, to those continuing to battle and to those whose battle ended to soon.

Recess Guardians is an organization that empowers youth to lead through active play. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to: bringing play back into recess, helping youth build leadership abilities, and increasing the chances of a healthy lifestyle later in life. It has helped teach children in hundreds of schools positive building blocks for their future in a controlled and educational environment while allowing them to ‘play’ like children during recess. Recess Guardians is currently running in schools across Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia, and is continuing to garner attention from schools across the country. With the right funding, Recess Guardians could be in over 3000 schools across Canada based on positive results it has shown in Western Canada. Click here for more information about Recess Guardians and how to get involved

The Saskatoon Community Foundation’s vision is to make Saskatoon the best community in which to live and works to realize this goal by providing grants to charitable organizations who work to enhance quality of life. Over the years, The SCF has funded adult literacy, community theatre, youth initiatives, and programs to provide healthy food to needy families. Scott and Connie Cherry have supported the SCF since the late 1990s through legacies, trusts and program support. The Cherry Family Fund and their support for the SCF Batting 1000 Youth Advisory Council puts Saskatoon’s families first. Scott Cherry personally supports the SCF on the Board of Directors, helping to set strategic direction to make the SCF a pillar of support for Saskatoon for years to come. Click here for more information on the Saskatoon Community Foundation and its goals.

The Saskatoon SPCA provides safe shelter and finds homes for companion animals in and around Saskatoon. Cherry Insurance is proud to add our support to the SPCA’s goals and their tireless efforts to ensure the safety and welfare of pets in our communities. Click here for more information on the SPCA or to make a donation.

New Hope Dog Rescue provides shelter for homeless dogs in Saskatoon and area. They rely on donations and on the generosity of foster families to eventually find permanent, loving homes for abandoned dogs. Cherry’s donation helped to make surgery for a stray possible and allow a family in Calgary to adopt and care for him. Click here for more information on dogs available for adoption or to make a donation.

Everybody’s Playground was built in 2002 in the Erindale-Arbour Creek Community in Saskatoon. A committee gathered to build Saskatoon’s first accessible, inclusive playground for children of all abilities. Cherry Insurance and SGI Canada were Diamond Sponsors for the project and together donated $25,000 to the $180,000 project. Scott and Connie Cherry were proud to support this project. Having raised a child with a disability, they understood the importance of having a place in the community where all children could play together.
