Cherry in the Community

From Scott Cherry, owner of Cherry Insurance:

Families Build Community

Saskatoon has given my family a home and a high quality of life. My grandfather established Cherry Insurance in 1945 and we've been a part of this community ever since. That's why we're working to make a difference and to give something back.

Read more below about how Cherry Insurance helps build community... one person at a time.

STARS Air Ambulance

STARS Air Ambulance provides emergency medical service teams to transport critical patients to medical facilities to receive timely or specialized care.  At Cherry Insurance we believe this service is valuable to all communities in the province to not only save a life but also provide comfort to the families.

Recess Guardians

Recess Guardians is an organization that empowers youth to lead through active play.  It is a non-profit organization dedicated to: bringing play back into recess, helping youth build leadership abilities, and increasing the chances of a healthy lifestyle later in life. It has helped teach children in hundreds of schools positive building blocks for their future in a controlled and educational environment while allowing them to ‘play’ like children during recess.

Recess Guardians is currently running in schools across Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia, and is continuing to garner attention from schools across the country.  With the right funding, Recess Guardians could be in over 3000 schools across Canada based on positive results it has shown in Western Canada.

Saskatoon Community Foundation

The Saskatoon Community Foundation's vision is to make Saskatoon the best community in which to live and works to realize this goal by providing grants to charitable organizations who work to enhance quality of life. Over the years, The SCF has funded adult literacy, community theatre, youth initiatives, and programs to provide healthy food to needy families.

Scott and Connie Cherry have supported the SCF since the late 1990s through legacies, trusts and program support. The Cherry Family Fund and their support for the SCF Batting 1000 Youth Advisory Council puts Saskatoon's families first.

Scott Cherry personally supports the SCF on the Board of Directors, helping to set strategic direction to make the SCF a pillar of support for Saskatoon for years to come.

Saskatoon SPCA

The Saskatoon SPCA provides safe shelter and finds homes for companion animals in and around Saskatoon. Cherry Insurance is proud to add our support to the SPCA's goals and their tireless efforts to ensure the safety and welfare of pets in our communities.

New Hope Dog Rescue Saskatoon

New Hope Dog Rescue provides shelter for homeless dogs in Saskatoon and area. They rely on donations and on the generosity of foster families to eventually find permanent, loving homes for abandoned dogs. Cherry's donation helped to make surgery for a stray possible and allow a family in Calgary to adopt and care for him.

Cherry Insurance Bursary Program

Established in 1998, the Cherry Insurance Bursary Program provides two $2,500 bursaries to students entering their first year at the University of Saskatchewan. The bursary is open to grade 12 graduates from Saskatoon, Prince Albert and North Battleford.

Everybody's Playground

Everybody's Playground was built in 2002 in the Erindale-Arbour Creek Community in Saskatoon. A committee gathered to build Saskatoon's first accessible, inclusive playground for children of all abilities. Cherry Insurance and SGI Canada were Diamond Sponsors for the project and together donated $25,000 to the $180,000 project.

Scott and Connie Cherry were proud to support this project. Having raised a child with a disability, they understood the importance of having a place in the community where all children could play together.
